Facebook’s Minimum Age and Crime Fighting

Did anyone see how an 11-year-old on Facebook alerted his mother with a message that teenagers were breaking into his house? What caught my attention was not that Facebook helped prevent this family from being robbed but that the Facebook member in question was only 11 years-old. I tried to look at his page but it was unavailable. I wonder what his age is stated in Facebook records. Facebook’s minimum age is 13. Does anyone think this matters or is it not important that he has an account and is only 11 years-old?  Can or should Facebook Terms of Use be enforced or what purpose do they serve if they are going to be ignored?

My First Blog for Class LSC597

This blog was created for my class LSC 597 Social Media and Library 2.0, a class I am taking at the University of Rhode Island. It will be fairly simple to start and I hope to make it a little sophisticated as I get used to all the design principals, tools and gadgets available!
